March but it sure felt like summer. Tempertures were in the high teens for the
start of the 5th season and first race of the Frontrunners GutBuster Trail Running
Series. A field of 180 racers lined up on the beach of Thetis Lake Regional Park
for either the 8km or the 15km trail run. This was the second largest turnout
for a GutBuster. Last year's series winner, Graham Cocksedge,
from Maple Ridge was the first to cross the finish line in the 15km race with
a time of 57 minutes. Stefan Jakobsen of Nanaimo was close behind to take second
place, and 2000 Olympic Gold Medalist, Simon Whitfield, finished third. Claire
Townsend captured the female 15km title. Carol Tickner was the second female to
cross the line folllowed by Rebecca Chisholm. Myron
Knipshield edged out Gary Duncan to win the masters 15km category and Louise Proulx
took home the female masters category with Sheron Chrysler finishing second. In
the 8km race, Iain Brambell and Jennifer Louis won their male and female open
category, while Edward Evans and Susan Barclay won their masters category. Winners
took home gift certificates to Frontrunners Footwear. We also gave out great draw
prizes like four pairs of Adidas Trail Response runners, a night at the Howard
Johnson Hotel in Nanimo and a GutBuster Half Marathon Entry, entries to the Yeti
Ascent race, and many other great prizes. Once again,
Tony Austin was out shooting some amazing photos. Click
