2nd Annual GutBuster Trail Run
at Westwood Lake in Nanaimo, BC

FINAL RESULTS

The second race of the GutBuster Trail Running Series took place in Nanaimo with a record number of racers and beautiful sunny skies. Up from 50 last year, a total of 160 racers signed upfrom all over Vancouver Island, the Lower Mainland, and even Calgary to test their limits.

Co-hosted with the Runners of Compassion, the race featured both a 6km and a 11km course on the trails around Westwood Lake. The short course was a nice flat run around the lake with a few small GutBuster hills. The full GutBuster course, designed by Dan Brady and the boys at Frontrunners, was an intense route with almost all twisting single-track, a few 'un-runnable' steep uphills, amazing viewpoints, and plenty of rocks and roots which forced racers to maintain focus throughout the race.

Steve Osaduik (Frontrunners) of Nanaimo was the first racer across the finish line with an impressive time of 0:47:33. Claire Townsend (Prairie Inn Harriers) of Victoria was the first female with a time of 1:01:26. In the Master's category, Myron Knippshield (CeeVacs) of Duncan was the fastest male with a time of 0:56:18. The top female was ORCA's Laurie Kalf of Errington with a time of 1:10:20.
