2001 Inaugral GutBuster Trail Run

FINAL RESULTS

On Saturday, April 14th, Cowichan Bay hosted the first-ever Bad Dog Mind Over Mountain 9 km Trail Run. Forty racers from Vancouver Island and the Mainland laced up and focused their minds and their bodies over Mt. Tzouhalem to compete in this challenging event. All racers finished in under 1 ½ hours with the first place racer, John Fokkema of Victoria, finishing in 50:52 in the men's category and Sharon Chrysler of Duncan finishing first in the female category with a time of 1:02:11.

Following the race, the Shipyard Pub hosted a buffet lunch and prizes were given away to the top finishers. The group then moved on to the Maple Bay Yacht Club and were taken on an inspiring journey with Dave Norona, professional adventure racer from Vancouver. Norona showed slides from his epic 33-day ski across Alaska, adding humour and racing tips to his presentation. He rounded off the talk with an emotion-evoking video of the 1996 Eco-Challenge in Utah and the day wrapped up with a question/answer period that proved inspiring for all who attended.
